For this month’s Shop my Stash post I pulled out the sweet Spellbinders Pins & Needles Jar die set. This set was the April 2024 Die of the Month set. I did not get it as a subscriber, but rather bought it when it was available in their shop, I have had it a while and have not used it. Am in need of a card for a dear friend that I had hoped to see this weekend, but our plans were thwarted.

I wanted the card to have the look and feel of the embroidery being done at a table and that the whole scene was viewed from above. I chose orange, pink, yellow and light blue as my colors after consulting my Color Catalog. This is palette #079. I cut the various parts of the die set, using the pink, orange and yellow for the threads and the scissors. However, I reserved the blue for the tablecloth. I cut all the pieces multiple times and glued them together to make them sturdier and have more dimension.

Using the Waffle Flower Stitchable Pinking Circle die, I cut the canvas onto which I planned to do some cross stitching. Having previously used this die, I do love it as one can embroider any pattern onto it. I used the Hero Arts Infinity Hearts die set to cut a smaller heart shaped canvas out of the circle and then used that same heart die and the one a size smaller to create a hoop type frame for the canvas. Using a DMC floss that matched my pink cardstock, I stitched a few crosses onto the canvas.

A piece of patterned paper from my stash that is printed like a wooden floor worked well for the background of this card. I glued it directly to my 5×7 cardbase. After placing the light blue plaid “tablecloth” at an angle, I arranged my different sewing tools and the embroidery in progress onto the work surface.

I completed my card by printing the sentiment on my laser printer, then foiling it with gold toner foil in my Minc machine and cutting it out with a die from the Spellbinders Emerald Cut Labels die set. The sentiment was then popped up on foam tape. It will catch the mail next week, heading across the US. While it is not the same as a visit, a card is after all a paper hug. Let’s see what I Shop my Stash for next month.

This is such an interesting and beautiful card, so different somehow. The theme is so unique. All the little bits and pieces one uses for embroidery, needlework, etc. Such a wonderful idea.
And the sentiment is beautiful. 🙃
Monica, the placement of your design elements is so sweet! I love the colors. While you were disappointed about not getting together with your friend, one thing I know for sure… she will NOT be disappointed in receiving this thoughtful creation!
