4 Easy but cute projects with Felt Stitch & Create

Happy Friday, my dear friends! It is time for another blog post and today I have some fun projects to show you. The new Spellbinders Felt Stitch & Create Collection has some cute characters in it. The dies are made so that they cut the felt shapes as well as the little stitching holes. Spellbinders sent me a few to play with.

Spellbinders Felt Stitch & Create Gingerbread Boy as an ornament

My first little character is a Felt Stitch & Create Gingerbread Boy. I cut him out of darker brown felt and gave him a blue bow-tie as well as blue buttons. His curvy icing was cut out of white. Using a running stitch, I embroidered his mouth and then added the buttons to the front part.

I used cotton batting as stuffing and cut two of those shapes to add in the middle. One could use PolyFill, but I didn’t want them to be bulky. After adding the ribbon to his neck area, I stitched all around with a running stitch, being sure to add the twine in his head during the stitching process. I used Aleene’s Tacky Glue to add his eyes and the “icing” to the arms and legs.

A Felt Stitch & Create Gingerbread girl

My second little character is the Gingerbread Girl. I cut her accessories out of pink and her body out of a lighter brown felt. The die set comes with a die that will punch holes in the neck area. I used this and then embroidered the little flowers using French Knots and running stitches.

Once I had added all the details to the front, the neck decor, the buttons, the mouth and the bow, I stitched the front and back together, again adding two pieces of cotton batting in the middle. After that, I added the pink “icing” to her arms and legs as well as gluing her eyes on.

My third project uses the same Felt Stitch & Create Gingerbread die set, but this time I used it with craft foam. The star buttons, Santa hat and big star are dies from the same die set. I created my little Christmas Gingerbread guy and placed him on the front of a 5 x 7 Kraft notecard with a patterned paper card panel.

I added Wink of Stella to the star to add some additional shine and completed the card with a sentiment from the Spellbinders Make It Merry Sentiments die set which I cut from white cardstock with a gold backing.

Star Snowman from Felt Stitch & Create

My final project uses the Felt Stitch & Create Star Snowman die set. I cut the front part from felt and the back part from cardstock. I cut his hat, his buttons, his mittens and his scarf all from felt. Using red thread, I stitched the detail onto the scarf. I opted to add little cross stitches to the bottom section of the scarf rather than keep it all as stripes.

Once all the detail was completed, I stitched the white felt front onto the back cardstock piece and then added the hat and the mittens. I created a 6×6 card base from dark blue cardstock and cut a slightly smaller card panel, which I inked with Stormy Sky Distress Oxide ink. I completed the card with the snowflakes and a die cut sentiment cut from white glitter card stock.

These guys are such fun to work with and can be used for a variety of media. In this post, you can see I have used felt, cardstock and craft foam. I am not sure if this project would be considered papercrafting or fiber art. Definitely a way in which to combine both media on one project! Thank you for visiting, see you next time.

  1. I love what you did here. The felt characters are gorgeous, so are the ones made of craft foam. So happy and joyful. Lovely how you worked with the felt, added the stitching for the neckless, the blue buttons, the bow tie, the icing,…
The cards are beautiful, they create a happy feel.
Enjoyed looking at all if this. Thank you. 💜🙃

  2. These are great as ornaments or card focals!! Super cute! The bows/bow ties are adorable! I like how they’re stitched.
