How to easily turn a flower into a peacock with Spellbinders

Today I am sharing two cards that demonstrate how differently you can use dies. For this project, the Spellbinders Small Die of the Month for January 2026 takes center stage. Although I don’t currently subscribe to any of the clubs, I found this die for sale in a buy and sell group on Facebook. The original intention of this die really appealed to me, but I also had some alternative ideas, one of which I am sharing here today.

Using the Spellbinders Small die of the month as intended

For my first card, I used the packaging sample as my inspiration for two reasons. First, I needed to figure out the workings of the die and second, I had invested in the full set of Spellbinders cardstock when they had their paper sale last year and I had yet to use any of it. This gave me a great opportunity to test the cardstock and figure out the colors. I chose to make a shaped card and used various colors of Spellbinders cardstock. I am very impressed with the weight, the smoothness of it and the ease with which it die cut. At no time did I feel the need to double up my cardstock like I often did with my box store brand.

Creating an alternative design with the Spellbinders Small die of the month for January 2026

The fan shape that this die creates immediately made me think of a peacock tail. After digging through my stash, the Spellbinders Folk Song bird stood out as the perfect choice for the peacock body. I cut the body from blue glitter cardstock and backed it with regular blue cardstock to fill the die-cut shapes. For the “eyes”, I used the Spellbinders Color Block Mini Drops, cutting them from white cardstock. I colored the layers with my Copic markers. To finish the card, I added a sentiment from the Spellbinders Woodland Tales die set. I also arranged blue glitter cardstock stars around the peacock to complete this 5 x 7 card. Unfortunately, these latter die sets have been retired.

Thank you for visiting with me today. I plan to return with more ideas using this die set. Till next time.

  1. These are two beautiful cards, and clever ideas. I love both cards – same shape, yet so different. The colour choices are are beautiful.
Nice that you had the inspiration for a peacock card. And the sentiments on both cards are lovely as well. Well done. 🙂
