How I created a colorful paper bouquet in a frame

Dear friends, today is once again Friday but I don’t have a card to show you. Instead, I have a frame with a paper bouquet adorning just about the whole 8×10 inch space in the middle. We have a dear friend who suffered a terrible accident and instead of sending real flowers, we decided to send a paper bouquet that can be enjoyed much longer than a vase of fresh flowers.

A paper bouquet in a frame

I used various Honey Bee Stamps Lovely Layers flower die sets to create the flowers. My first step was to make a number of blooms. I wanted my paper bouquet to feature roses and lilies, with other flowers and greenery as filler. For the filler flowers, I made mums and wildflowers and used the Winter Greenery die set for the additional foliage. I first spent time cutting all the flowers and then it was time for assembly. A bit of Distress Oxide Ink was added to some of the flowers and foliage.

I cut a piece of watercolor paper to fit my frame and, using some metallic light green paint and a large brush, I added paint in a very random way. The pot was cut from blue cardstock with a Spellbinders die and then embossed with ultra-thick embossing powder to give it that pottery look. Finally, I added the sentiment to the top of the frame. This was a very intentional exercise, as I laid down each individual letter!

At this point, I was ready to arrange my flowers. I took my time with this in an attempt to find the balance between a full arrangement that was not too busy. Flowers should not be unduly covered by others, yet I did not want any background showing. Once I was satisfied with my design, I glued the flowers down. Most of them were adhered directly to the background, but a few of the top ones were propped up with a bit of foam tape. This frame needed to be mailed, so I did not want any of the flowers to rise above the edge of the frame.

The paper bouquet is now in the hands of the carrier. I am trusting it will arrive safely and accomplish what I had in mind. Thank you for visiting with me today. See you next week.
