December 2024 Sheetload of Cards with foil and vellum

Today I am here for my final post of 2024! Thank you everyone that has visited regularly, signed up for my post newsletter and left comments and thoughts about my projects. It has been great fun and I look forward to many more projects in 2025. Today I am sharing my December 2024 Sheetload of Cards project. As stated before, this is a card sketch that Call Me Crafty Al shares on her YouTube channel.

8 Christmas cards created with the December 2024 Sheetload of Cards

This month was the first time that I have purchased papers specifically for my Sheetload of Cards make. The goal has always been to choose papers from my stash. But this month I wanted to make Christmas Cards for the families in our congregation and so I wanted paper that matched that purpose. I visited the single sheet section in Hobby Lobby and found two that I liked and thought went well together for my project.

The second thing I wanted to do was try foiling on vellum. The sketch calls for a circle placed on the card for the sentiment and/or image. Since I did not want to cover up these pretty papers that I purchased especially for this purpose, I thought it was a good time to make the circle of vellum and try to foil the sentiment. Using Silhouette Studio, I designed the circles and then printed the words “Oh Come Let Us Adore Him” in the circle and printed them out.

I then cut the circles with a 2.75 inch die from my Hero Arts Circle Infinity Die set and cut the bit off below the sentiment. And then it happened! I ran the vellum circles through my Minc Machine and they foiled beautifully. I was so pleased. I added a small strip of white cardstock behind each sentiment so that it did not disappear against the patterned paper behind it.

Using the Spellbinders Rejoice Nativity Scene die set, I cut Joseph and Mary and the manger. I discovered that the manger from the Spellbinders Nativity Scene die set from the Simon’s Snow Globes Collection is similar enough in shape, but a bit bigger. It worked well as a shadow. I cut the designs in black cardstock and the bigger manger in gold metallic cardstock. I added the figurines to the circle above the sentiment.

I very much enjoy making the monthly Sheetload of Cards sketch and look forward to doing so again in the new year and will then be working on my stash of patterned papers again. I want to wish you all a happy and prosperous 2025.

  1. Beautiful design. Lovely paper you bought, goes so well with the theme of the card. Your foiling was a success, looks really good.
The words and the Nativity Scene look so pretty.
