Yuletide Ride: Two Unique Cards from One Die Set

It is Friday again and today I have two projects to show you. I am featuring the Spellbinders Yuletide Ride die set in both my projects, although one of them is far from being a holiday project. I also am using the Christmas Cameos and the Lined Corners 3D embossing folders for the two projects. Both my cards are 5×7 size, so they are quite impactful.

The Yuletide Ride die set being used in the traditional manner

For my first card, I used the Yuletide Ride die set as it was intended – as a Christmas car loaded with gifts, a tree, a stocking and some lights. The car is such a cute, cartoony style and the load on the roof is astronomical!! Other than the small pop of pink in my lineup, I used variations of red and green. I added Wink of Stella to the whole tree, covering the tree, the lights and the star on top for some added interest.

I cut a red cardpanel and then a 4.5×6.5 panel out of a tan colored cardstock, which I embossed with the Christmas Cameo embossing folder. The detail is beautiful. I added the two layers to my cardbase and added the car with its load to the center.

Combining the beautiful Christmas Cameos embossing folder with the Yuletide Ride die set

The card was completed with a “Christmas Wishes” sentiment using the older Outlined Christmas Sentiments die set. I cut the shadow out of black shimmer cardstock and the words out of white glitter.

My second card was inspired by the Yuletide ride die set itself. While looking at the die set, I thought that the die to cut the bow for the top of the gift looked so like a key from the old-time wind-up toys. And so the idea of a retirement card with the play on the word “unwind” was born.

Using the Yuletide Ride car as a retirement car

I used the Lined Corners embossing folder for the panel here and embossed it on kraft cardstock. The impression gives the imagery of roads, in my opinion. I cut the car out of shades of pink cardstock and added the “key”, cut from silver cardstock, to the back. The sentiment parts were printed on my laser printer onto pink cardstock and foiled with silver foil.

And so you can see that the Spellbinders Yuletide ride die set does not only have to be used for the holidays. What a wealth of ideas one can come up with using a wind-up car! See you next week.

  1. I love both cards. You used the car in such different ways. And both are so special and unique.

The first one is great. So much happiness, excitement and joy.

The second one is fabulous. Your idea with a wind-up car is super. It goes so well with this car. And the sentiment is brilliant. So well put together.
    Well done… once again!!! 🙂
