Fridays seem to come around quite quickly and today I am here to celebrate a new release with the Spellbinders Timeless Collection. There are a number of ornate dies in this collection and today I am showing you the Timeless 5 x 7 Cardfront dies. I do enjoy the bigger real estate that 5×7 cards bring with them and so having a die that takes up the whole space is really a treat.
Whole card front with Spellbinders Timeless Collection
Inlay die cutting is a technique that I enjoy doing. It is a slow, relaxing process and with this die set there are lots of little pieces to inlay. The die set has 5 dies and when putting them all together to cut a card front, the result is so elegant. So I cut the assembly once in gold and once in white. This allowed me to make two cards with the two cuts that I did. The first card has a white background with the gold design inlaid.
In order to not cover up too much of my inlaid design, I used a piece of vellum cut with a smaller over from the Spellbinders Essential Ovals die set and then added the die cut words “thinking of you”. The sentiment is cut from white cardstock with a gold shadow.
The reverse inlay of the first card
My second card is made up of the reverse from the first one. So I have a gold cardbase with the white design inlaid. Once completed, I felt that the gold was a bit much and need something on it that did not shine. Using the Spellbinders Butterfly Kisses Stamp & Die Bundle I stamped the outline stamps of the butterflies in Versafine Onyx Black ink and then coated it with fine, clear embossing powder. I then used my watercolor brush markers to add one of the seven rainbow colors to each of the butterflies.
Once colored, I used the coordinating dies to cut the butterflies out. I also stamped a sentiment from the same set with Versafine Onyx Black ink and heat embossed it with clear powder. The sentiment was added to the middle of the card and I then arranged the butterflies around it. I adhered some of the butterflies directly onto the card with glue and some of them are popped up with foam tape.
I look forward to experimenting some more with these dies as they can be used separately also, which will give a completely different looked. Stay tuned!
