Using Spellbinders Yana’s Poppies die to create 2 beautiful cards

Happy Friday! Today I am sharing two cards made with the die from the Spellbinders Yana’s Poppies collection. I love the flowers that Yana designs, and this one is no exception. This card was heavily inspired by @hmade_studio on Instagram, although Heejung used different colors for her poppies.

A blue and yellow card made with the die set with Spellbinders Yana's Poppies.

For this card, I ink blended some blue Distress Oxide inks on my card panel, with no real thought about it. I just added inks and blended until I had a panel that I loved. I then did something I rarely do – splatter. Yes, I love crafting, but messy crafting? Not so much. But I did it, splattering Picket Fence Distress Ink and gold watercolor paint onto the front of the card panel. I set that aside to dry and then cut the flowers out of white cardstock and metallic gold. I inked the petals from the white cutout with yellow Distress Oxide inks and then inlaid them into the gold frame pieces. I cut the shadows from vellum.

I completed the card by arranging the flowers on the inked card panel. I let them hang over the edge so that it would give a continuous look when I cut those parts off. The cutoff pieces were used to fill in the small spaces. The sentiment is from the Spellbinders Enchanted Stitched Mushrooms die set. I love the dainty “hello” that it creates.

Creating a square card again

My second card uses the white frames that were left over from the first card. I cut various shades of pink cardstock for the petals for a more modern look and inlaid them into the white frame. I again cut the shadow from vellum.

I made a square card for this one. This is a shape I have not made in a very long time. When I made square cards, I made 5.5×5.5 inch bases so that I can still get two from a standard letter-size piece of cardstock. Using a card panel cut to 5.25×5.25 inches, I embossed the flower into the opposite corners of the card panel to the corners I wished to add the flowers. This is done by using the rubber mat that comes with the Platinum 6 die cutting machine. The card was completed by adding the pink flowers in the opposite corners. I cut the buds off of one. A simple “hugs” sentiment was added to the top left-hand corner.

I look forward to any further flowers that Yana may design in this elegant look. They have a unique style and are very different from other flower dies that I have in my stash.
