It is Friday yet again and time for my regular post of the week. I am working with another die set from the Out & About Collection, namely the Spellbinders Dancin’ in the Rain die set. Today’s card is a special tribute to Tanja – my good friend of many years. It was during a visit to the Wimpy in South Africa that I first noticed pictures that were in grayscale with one pop of color. As she remarked at the time, I had to try that concept. I did it at that time in Photoshop, but today I am recreating this effect with cardstock on my card.
Looking for all the shades of gray
I am using the new Spellbinders Dancin’ in the Rain die set. Pulling out all the gray cardstock that I have, I spent a little time deciding which shade to use for what part of the card. I did not pay attention to light source or any other technical detail, I went only with what felt right. The clouds on the background are created with a cloud stencil and Pumice Stone Distress Oxide ink. Thanks to the nature of the ink, the lighter color of the ink still shows up well on the darker shade of cardstock.
The pop of color on this card is the yellow of the little duck friend. I used two shades of yellow, a darker one for the body and a lighter one for the wing. The raindrops are cut from holographic cardstock. Once all the pieces were cut, I assembled the umbrella carrier and the duck. I cut a “ground” with a die that shaped the top slightly. After stenciling the cardfront, I added the ground, the puddle, the person and the duck. The cardpanel was adhered to the front of a 5×7 cardbase and the card was completed with a pre-printed sentiment that I popped up with foam tape.

The Spellbinders Dancin’ in the Rain die set is another set that has the legs as a separate piece and allows for assembly with foam tape to let them wiggle. I did not use this feature as I wished my card to be flat.
