Using small dies to fill the spaces: Two easy ideas

Happy Friday my friends. I am so pleased to be able to show you my new projects for this week in which I am again sharing some of Spellbinders’ new products—this time the Essential Stars die set and the Harvest Time add-on die set to the Cuckoo Clock. I was fascinated by all the little dies in this add-on set and thought they would make perfect fillers for those tricky spaces on cards. So here we are, using small dies to fill the spaces on the card.

My first example of using small dies to fill the spaces

I decided to use a plaid background for both of my cards since I have a 12×12 pack of plaid patterned papers and was making 5×7 cards. The larger card size works well to showcase 12×12 paper prints. My first card has a yellow gingham-style check as the background. I used three stars in three shades of blue. The foxes, cut from gold metallic paper, are placed in the center of two stars with other elements arranged around them. I love that there are mirror image dies of the critters, since this set was originally created for the clock. To finish, I stamped a sentiment in the middle of the card with Versafine Onyx Black ink and heat embossed it with clear powder.

Also using small dies to fill the spaces, this is a great every day greeting

My second card has a deep orange plaid background, and I cut the stars from kraft. I stamped a round sentiment on the largest star with Versafine Onyx Black ink and heat embossed it with clear powder. A small heart was stamped on the second star in the same way. To fill the spaces on this card, I used the little gnome and mushrooms from the Harvest Time add-on set.

I plan to acquire the Cuckoo Clock die set in time and look forward to creating seasonal clocks. Cuckoo clocks are such heritage pieces, and I had one in my childhood bedroom. Thank you for visiting, and I’ll see you again soon.

  1. Two lovely cards. I like the background, different again. And your sentiments are gorgeous, these words can mean so much to someone. And the little bits and pieces, critters and gnomes are lovely. So intricate.
I am fascinated every week what you show us. 🙂
