I have been busy in my craft room, and today I have another 3 cards to show you. These Steamboat Willie card ideas feature the very cute new release by Spellbinders called the Say Cheese Classic Mouse Collection. Spellbinders has teamed up with Simple Stories now that the original Steamboat Willie character is in the public domain. So this is not a collaboration with Disney by any means. The collection consists of a number of die sets, stamp sets and BetterPress plates. I used some of the dies from the collection for my cards.
My first card shows the Steamboat Willie Mickey in his red shorts and red hat. The hand has a slit in it, which makes inserting something into his hand so much fun. This flower came with the die set. I printed the sentiment on my laser printer and then foiled it with copper-colored toner foil using my Minc machine. Mickey is standing on a strip cut with one of the dies from the Classic Mouse Borders die set. I kept this 5×7 card rather simple so that the character could shine on the front.
For the second card, I again printed a sentiment on the card panel and this time foiled it with pink foil. I added the music notes border from the Classic Mouse Borders die set and also the number 4 from the Classic Mouse Numbers & Punctuation die set. The Minnie character is the focal point of this card, and she takes center stage on the border.
I opted to merge the old and the modern with my third card. The original Steamboat Willie characters were cartoons sketched in black and white. I used only black, white and one shade of gray for Mickey and Minnie here. I also used all the borders from the Classic Mouse Borders die set, cut in white and adhered to the card front for a white-on-white effect. I love images that are black and white with only one pop of color and have used that technique before. For this card, I added a red foiled heart onto the stem in Minnie’s hand, which she is handing to Mickey. And then for the modern twist!
Consulting ChatGPT, I learned that 143 means “I love you” – 1 letter, 4 letters and 3 letters, in text message speak. That was perfect for this card, as I had the number die set and she is handing out her heart anyway. So what better sentiment than “I love you”?
Thank you for visiting with me again today. I hope you enjoyed these Steamboat Willie card ideas as much as I enjoyed creating them. I have some more of these gorgeous characters cut out and assembled, so I am sure you will see them again in the near future. Till next time!

Wow, these cards are sweet. Mickey and Minnie are always special. I very much like the black and white card. The pop of colour just does it.
And I learned something – about 143. I had no idea. So thank you. 🙂
