Crafting Christmas Magic with the Holiday Express

I know that it is Saturday today and that this is my third post for this week, but I had to share this project. While recently looking at various challenge blogs, I came across the My Time to Craft Christmas challenge blog. The current challenge requires the Christmas card to have a train in it. Well, I did not need any further encouragement to break out my Spellbinders Holiday Express die set.

The Holiday Express as part of a cute Christmas Village.

This card sort of came together backwards. Starting with the train, I die cut all the pieces and assembled the engine and the two carriages to create the Holiday Express. I then created the background of the card which was blended Distress Oxide inks splattered with white and gold watercolor. While that was set aside to dry, I cut out the church, the two houses, the trees and the other winter village accessories with the Honey Bee Stamps Winter Village die set. I created the snow banks with another Honey Bee die set, namely the Horizon Slimline Borders die set. A little bit of Oxide ink was added to the edges of the snow banks.

I assembled all the pieces to create the church and the two houses and once the scene was created, I added my train to the front and positioned the gifts in the carriages. I completed the card with the “Merry Christmas” sentiment cut out of white card stock and out of white glitter card stock glued together.

Merry Christmas wishes brought by the Holiday Express

There is always something charming about a little train in a Christmas scene. I think it awakens the romance in all of us.

Monica: Awesome!!! The village scene is spectacular!!! That’s a lot of small detailed steps to get each element ready! The holiday express train looks great in the foreground of your Christmas card! Thank you very much for creating and sharing for My Time To Craft Christmas!!! –Becca
