Hello friends, it is Friday again and time for me to share another blog post with you. I am once again creating with a Spellbinders product that they sent me to play with, namely the Spellbinders Party Puggles die set. This die set creates the cutest pug dogs. As some of you know, I just recently returned from visiting my family in South Africa. Mom gave me a bag of colorful felt pieces and I thought they were perfect to create these little furry friends.
My first card uses three colors of felt. A lighter tan color that I used for the body and the head, a medium tan color for the snout, and a darker, almost brown, for the area around the eyes and the ears. The waver thin dies cut through the felt very easily. I assembled the dog in the same manner as one would do with paper. The little shape for his nose and his little round eyes were cut out of black card stock and then covered with a black glaze pen, for a bit of shine and dimension.
A recent video by Jennifer McGuire, in which she created pop-up interactive cards, inspired these cards. The way that she showed how to do it without needing any special supplies was of interest to me and so this was my time to try it. I stamped the sentiment and added the little dog onto an oval just big enough to hold them both. Then I created the hinge, as per her instructions, to put behind the oval.
I cut a hole through the front panel and the card front using one size larger from the Spellbinders Essential Stylish Ovals nesting die set. Then I embossed the front panel using the Tile Reflections 3D embossing folder before adding it to the front of the card. I then glued the back of the hinge onto the inside of the card so that the oval was visible with the card closed and the card open. There was still enough space to write a personal message that would be hidden when the card was closed.
The hinge that she shows, made of a cardstock strip, folds down flat so that the card can go into a normal envelope. The fun part is that it pops up when the recipient takes it out.
I made a second card using a lighter color of felt for the body and the head, and then black cardstock for the snout, eye area and ears. The felt/card stock combination appealed better to me than the pure felt one. Using cardstock for the features on the face and head gave them more definition. I assembled the remainder of the card in the same way as the first one.
This die set also comes with a lot of accessories like party hats and gifts that can be included with the dogs. I did not use any of them this time, but I intend to revisit this die set at a later stage. Thank you for visiting with me today, see you next time.

Monica, these two card are too cute. I love them: the dogs, the colours, the words… just everything.
What a lovely idea to to them with the felt pieces your Mom gave you. And that they pop up when taken out of the envelope is just too precious. Gorgeous project! 🙂
