Double stenciling to create a powerful effect on a handmade card

I am back again in the middle of the week as after a very long pause, my friend BożenA and I have a challenge project to show you. It was her turn to call the challenge criteria and she chose double stenciling. I had never tried this technique and so she provided me with a YouTube link to learn about it.

Double Stenciling to create a great background effect

Most of my stencils are background patterns of some shape. So I looked through them to see what would work for double stenciling. I also thought it would be a good time to go through my stash and use some products that I had not used for a very long time or not at all. While doing so I came across a stencil of the Eiffel Tower and since I love Paris, I thought that would be perfect. I think I was under a rock as I did not know that the Olympics are in Paris this year and so this card has no connection to that event.

Doing the double stenciling on the background

For the double stenciling I used an ink spot stencil and a heart stencil. I first stenciled the ink spots all over my cardpanel and left that stencil in place. I then added a heart stencil on top and using a different ink color, I added the hearts over the ink spots. Finally, using Picket Fence Distress Oxide ink, I stenciled the Eiffel Tower. This was added after the other stencils were removed, so not really considered double stenciling.

Double Stenciling to create a great background effect

I completed the card with a cityscape scene and the airplane from a Kaiserkraft stamp set. The sentiment is from an older Spellbinders label die set. I decided that something was still missing and that is how the traffic came about along the bottom of the card. These are small assembled die cuts which I then added to the bottom of the cardpanel before adhering it to a top-folding A2 cardbase.

I am excited to see BożenA’s take on this technique. You can click through to her blog post and I am sure she would appreciate a comment while you are there.

  1. I am so glad that we managed to set off again into the world of challenges together. Your card is amazing. You used many elements to create this amazing city scene. I love these bubbles floating in Paris with a heart inside. You have perfectly incorporated your card into the Olympics event. So many people watch the athletes compete there and everyone leaves a “piece” of their heart at the Olympics. You have captured it perfectly on your card 🙂
Thank you for the fun together and I am waiting for a new theme, this time you will set the trends.
    hugs,
    BożenA xx

  2. Wow, Paris…. I love the colours and technique. Very effective I think. Such a happy card. Looks lovely.
Nice that you were able to do a challenge again.
