Color blocking is an easy technique that can be accomplished in cardmaking in various ways. Not only is it a popular technique, but it also adds depth and interest to the card. Today I have a card showing how I did it with watercolors, white embossing powder and an embossing folder. I have a previous post showing a different color blocking technique.

Doing the embossing
As you can see on my card, the design consists of four different blocks of various colors placed on the front of the card. For this project I used light colors. The technique is quite simple. I applied Versamark ink to the raised edges of a dainty patterned embossing folder and then transferred it to a piece of white notecard sized cardstock. I then applied detail white embossing powder to the ink and heat set it.
Doing the color blocking
Once it was cooled, I cut the panel into four pieces and then applied a different color of watercolor to each of the four parts. The white embossing powder resisted the watercolor and so the dainty flowers still showed up as white on the panels. I then added foam tape to each of the four color blocks and added them evenly spaced to the front of my card.
Completing the card
Since I had a vibrant color blocked background, I opted for a simple black sentiment on a white shadow to complete this card.
Supplies I used
This card is made with supplies from my stash. If you are a papercrafter, you would most likely have them too. Use any embossing folder that you have in your stash, a sticky embossing ink and fine embossing powder. The watercolor paints can be any brand and you could every use reinkers for watercolor. Choose your favorite color combo. Add a bold sentiment over the color blocked background and voila! You have a lovely card.
I hope you try your hand at color blocking too as it is a fun, yet simple technique.
Fantastic card, Monica. I love the delicate outline of the flowers on the colorful panels. I really like the color scheme you chose. A quick and very effective card! Hugs
