4 Seasons created with one easy to use die set

This week I will have two blog posts for you to look at as my crafty friend BozenA and I have completed another challenge. Our challenges are without pressure and so sometimes it takes a bit longer until we publish. We take it about turn to name the topic and this time it was my turn. I suggested that we create 4 cards, one for each of the 4 Seasons. The twist was that one element, it could be a die, a stamp or any other cardmaking item, had to be the central part of each card. I decided to use the Spellbinders Big Bicycle die as my common element and show the bicycle through the seasons.

4 Seasons - Spring bicycle

All four of my cards here are shaped cards. The bicycle die comes with a shadow outline die and that is solid enough to make a shaped card with. So I created 4 cardbases by cutting the shadow shape 8 times in heavyweight white cardstock and 4 times in heavyweight brown cardstock. I glued one white and one brown shape together. The other white shapes were scored on the left hand side to create a hinge and the hinge part was glued to the back of the brown part. The first card is the Spring bicycle and I cut the frame from a bright green cardstock.

First two of the 4 Seasons

I created the tires from black cardstock and the chain guard, handles, wheel center, seat and pedal from silver foil cardstock. The baskets were cut from two shades of brown cardstock. I created these elements in the same colors for all 4 bicycles. The Spring bicycle received some pink tulips in the basket and on the carrier. The back bouquet got a purple ribbon. All these dies are in the Spellbinders Big Bicycle die set.

4 Seasons - Summer bicycle

My Summer bicycle has a red frame and two baskets. I just used the same basket as on the front of the bicycle to position over the back wheel. The teddy in the back basket is from the Spellbinders Big Bicycle die set and the beach ball in the front basket is from the Spellbinders Truckin’ Through the Seasons die set.

4 Seasons - Autumn Bicycle

Final renditions of the bicycles

The Fall or Autumn bicycle is the obligatory orange. The pumpkin on the carrier is from the Spellbinders Truckin’ Through the Seasons die set and the acorns and leaves are from the Spellbinders Mini Fall Blooms die set.

The final bicycle, namely the Winter bicycle, is a frosty blue. The poinsettias and foliage on this bicycle are from the Spellbinders Big Bicycle die set and the snowflakes are from the Spellbinders Holiday Decorations die set.

I completed all the cards with sentiments that I printed out on my laser printer, cut out with my Silhouette Cameo and then foiled with gold toner foil and my Minc machine. I hope you will visit BozenA’s project to see how she went through the seasons. Please leave her a comment while you are there.

  1. Hello Monica,
Your creativity is huge. Creating a card in the shape of a bicycle… brilliant! Unique and unrepeatable cards. The contents of the racks and the colors of the bicycles perfectly illustrate each season. Thank you for the fun together. Your ideas most often push me out of my comfort zone and for that I appreciate our challenges.
