Spellbinders Handmade Holidays: a Sleigh Card Magic Look

Hello friends, thank you for stopping by my blog again this week. I have another project for you made with Spellbinders products, this time from the Handmade Holidays Collection. Spellbinders has been very kind to me in the last few weeks and has sent me a number of their new die sets to try out. This collection has a lovely sentiment set and a beautiful sleigh that is made up of layered die cuts.

Spellbinders Handmade Holidays created in blue and shimmer

Creating the first card on the blue background

I decided to make two cards for my post today. They are similar in style, but different in color scheme. They both feature patterned paper as the background. I added some Memento ink to each of the patterned paper cardpanels, adding a dark green to the one with the holly leaves and a dark blue to the one with the snowflakes. Then for the blue background, I cut the decorative sleigh piece in white glitter cardstock and the background piece in dark gray. I used the same dark gray for the top of the sleigh and I used holographic foiled cardstock for the skids. I cut a second layer of the skids out of white cardstock and layered it with the holographic cutout.

The gifts, also part of this die set, are cut from various yellow and red patterned papers. I used kraft cardstock for the twine ties on the gifts. I cut the sentiment from kraft cardstock and the background for it out of a dark blue to coordinate with the blue of the background.

A traditional take on Spellbinders Handmade Holidays

My second card is more traditional in its color scheme. I cut the sleigh from a dark red cardstock and the decorative layer from a brighter red cardstock. The skids are cut from gold foil cardstock and also backed with a layer of white. This provides a good amount of sturdiness to the fragile die cut. The gifts are cut alternatively from gold and holographic foiled cardstock and the twine is again cut from kraft.

Using traditional Christmas colors with the Spellbinders Handmade Holidays collection

I assembled both cards in a similar fashion. First, I adhered the patterned paper background to the front of a side-folding A2 cardbase. Then, I added the sleigh in the lighter area in the middle. I added the sentiment to the bottom of the sleigh. The card with the holly leaves background got some die cut leaves and holly berries in two of the corners. These elements are also part of the Spellbinders Handmade Holidays collection, more specifically the Delivering Joy Sleigh die set.

A sleigh seems to be such a romantic holiday element and I love that I now have a die set that easily creates one that looks dimensional and can be done in various colors.

  1. Two beautiful cards. So nicely put together. Both are beautiful in their own way. The sleigh and the little parcels look gorgeous. Again, well done! 🙂
