Spellbinders Home for the Holidays: Versatile Card Crafting Two Ways

Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog. Today I am getting to play with the new Spellbinders Home for the Holidays Collection. I have created two cards the same way, just using different colors. So we can see that by just changing colors completely changes the look of the end result.

Creating a poinsettia spray with the Spellbinders Home for the Holidays Collection

Going traditional on the first round

For my first card, I used the Poinsettia Spray die set and cut all the dies in traditional Christmas colors. I made the poinsettias red, the little four petaled flowers white and the little trumpet flowers red. The holly berries are red and the accents on all the flowers are yellow. I cut the foliage spray from a Christmas green cardstock.

This die set has extra leaves that can be cut from a slightly different colored cardstock and placed onto the spray. The die cuts out a number of leaves in one pass. Each of these flowers have at least two pieces that make up the whole. This means that all the flowers have some dimension to them and can be done in shades of the colors used. Once I had assembled all the flowers, I added them to the foliage spray. I do appreciate that the foliage spray has good little round spots that hold enough glue to adhere the flowers to.

Using the Emerald Cut Labels and Tag, I created a red matte and a white fluted layer onto which I framed my spray of flowers. I added die cut sentiments from the Spellbinders Outlined Christmas sentiment die set. I do like white die cuts on black shadows, especially with bright colors like this.

Creating a birthday card with the Spellbinders Home for the Holidays collection

Spellbinders Home for the Holidays non-traditionally

My second card is made in the very same manner. The difference is only the colors used for the die cuts. I made the same spray in pinks and purples, and it definitely works as a birthday card. The sentiment is from the Spellbinders Serenade Sentiments die set, again cut in white with a black shadow.

I hope I have inspired you to take a new look at your holiday floral dies and see if by a simple color change, you can get more life out of them beyond just to make Christmas cards. I have tried my hand at video making for this project and you can find the video below or on my YouTube Channel.
