Three ideas for simple Summer Camp cards with lovable characters

Happy Friday! I am back today with three card ideas featuring a super cute collection by Spellbinders called Summer Camp. This is a set I knew was coming, so I eagerly awaited its release. It consists of six characters across two sets, along with add-ons to create a swimming or fishing trip, various sports that campers might enjoy at Summer Camp, and scenic outdoor backgrounds. I did not purchase the stencils for the backgrounds, so I created my own using paper piecing and ink blending.

The first Summer Camp card using the fox and the skunk

My first Summer Camp card uses the skunk and the fox, and they are fishing. I used the older Spellbinders Landscape Edges die set to create the background, inking the edges of the clouds with Speckled Egg Distress Oxide ink and the edges of the lake with Salty Ocean. The two little campers have a fishing pole and an oar, respectively, and being the safety-minded guys that they are, they are wearing life jackets. The die-cut sentiment is from an older set in my stash.

The second Summer Camp card using the racoon and the squirrel

The second Summer Camp card uses the squirrel and the raccoon, and they have just enjoyed a fun game of tennis. One of them planned to relax in the hammock after posing for this picture. The tree is one of three included in the Spellbinders Trails End set. The signs are also from that set and provide a lovely option for a sentiment on a card. The critters are easy to assemble, and Spellbinders provides an assembly guide on the product listing page of their website.

Final Summer Camp card creating a band scene.

My third Summer Camp card is a fun one. This card features the hedgehog and the deer. I decided that the hedgehog can easily double as a bear if the quills are left off and the animal is created in bear colors. That gives the collection a seventh character option. For this card, I inked the background with Distress Oxide inks in the colors Mustard Seed, Carved Pumpkin, and Seedless Preserves. I used various Spellbinders die sets from my stash, including sets from Bibi’s Musical Notes Collection and the old but still favorite Truckin’ Through the Seasons die set.

I hope you enjoyed seeing my first take on the Summer Camp collection. These little characters are so cute, and they pair beautifully with many other die sets to create charming outdoor scenes. I look forward to working with them more and sharing additional projects in the future. Thank you for visiting with me today, and I’ll see you next week.

  1. Lovely how you interpreted the different scenes, added these lovelly characters and their ‘gadgets’: fishing rod, instruments, tennis rackets,… Beautiful colours and sentiments for all of them.

Thank you for sharing these cute cards with us. 🙂
