Your own drumbeat

I have an exciting project to share with you today. I recently won some images from Sheepski Designs and picked this Flamenco Dancer as one of my images as I was inspired by the card my friend BożenA had made with it a while ago. Please visit her blog to see her version here. The two of us have decided to challenge each other to a theme or project and so she picked our first theme to be Dance and challenged me to use this image.

I decided that I would make this card to also depict one of my personality traits which is to encourage people around me to be themselves and to believe in themselves and what they have inside of them. Each of us is unique and incredible if we would just be true to our inside and not let the outside dictate our every move. I wanted my card to make a bold statement in this regard!

I created my design in Silhouette Studio. I drew my regular A2 sized rectangle as my base. I then added the digi with its cutline to the rectangle and resized it. I then added another rectangle to the base, sizing it behind the digi so that the swirls of her dress went off the edge. I added a digital paper from the Color Burst Collection by We Are 3 Digital Shop, altering the hue to change the coloring to this fiery scheme. I duplicated the digi’s cutline and then I welded the rectangle and one of the digi’s cutline to create a cutline that went around the rectangle and the swirls on her dress only. Using the duplicated digi’s cutline, I created an offset which I colored with a yellow from the background and lowered the opacity to lighten it and then placed the digi onto my background as the top layer in the software. I typed the sentiment and then printed my creation out onto Canson C’ a Grain Drawing paper.

I colored the beautiful lady with my Prismacolor colored pencils and the red colors from my old Colleen colored pencil set. Once she was colored, I returned her to the Silhouette and cut her out. Using a small alphabet die set, I cut the word Dance out in her skirt area in the same direction as the flow of her skirt. I cut the letters again out of orange craft foam. I embossed a cardpanel with a Spellbinders embossing folder and then placed the colored panel onto the card. I then added the foam lettering back into place and added the original cutout letters on top. Thank you BożenA for the inspiration of cutting words out of the colored digi.
Please visit BożenA’s blog to see her interpretation of our challenge theme. Leave her a comment while you are there.

  2. Hi Monica !! WOW! How beautifully you designed your card! I love the embossed background, it contrasts beautifully with the colorful part of the card, and the wonderful three-dimensional word looks stunning when its shadow is created. WOW! It was a great adventure to create this bridge with you Monica! Thank you thank you thank you!

  3. A beautifully coloured image. Love your choice of colours and the embossed panel.

  4. Hello Monika! Your flamenco dancer is stunning! I adore how you coloured her, then die cut the word and popped it on foam for dimension – such a fabulous design! (And so brave of you!) Your sentiment is very inspiring too and reflects your 'believe in yourself' character trait which you kindly shared! Beautiful colouring and mind-boggling (to me!) technology on the the Silhouette machine 🙂 Love the colour contrast with the embossed panel! I popped over to Brozena's blog for a peek at her project – such a great idea to set up your intercontinental bridge!
Thank you for sharing your awesome project with us at the Craftilicious Creations
