Collage Art ATCoins

Time for a new challenge over at Crafts Galore Encore. Who can believe that it is December already? This is my final project on the Crafts Galore Encore Design Team as I have resigned my position on a number of the teams I was on this year to free up some time for 2020.

Our sponsor this month is Gecko Galz and I got to work with the Flower Power Paper Pack, the Spring Charms Digital Collage Set and the Charming Words Collage Set. I decided they were the perfect combo to make ATCoins with and so I opened my trusty GIMP and Silhouette Studio and got to work.

I created eight 2.5 inch circles on my page in Silhouette Studio and filled each one with one of the digital papers. I then saved that file as my coin backgrounds. I then saved another version of the file for my coin fronts and combining cropping tools in GIMP with tracing lines in Silhouette Studio, I added one of the girls from the Spring Charms Digital Collage set to each coin, applying a shadow to some, if the background paper called for it.

Again using the cropping tools in GIMP, I took the statements from the Charming Words College Set and added one to each of the coins. In some cases I  placed the sentiment on the edge of the circle so that my Silhouette could cut it in the round of the circle. Here are some close up pictures of the coins.

I made sure that all the cutlines were turned off except for the outside 2.5 inch circle of each coin. I did not want the machine cutting anything within the coin area.

Once I was happy with the result, I printed the fronts and the backs onto white cardstock and cut the circles out. Using heavyweight cardstock and one of my Infinity Circle dies, I cut sixteen 2.5 inch circles. Gluing two heavyweight cardstock circles together and then adding the front and the back onto each coin, I assembled all eight coins. They are beautifully sturdy.
I completed the coins by inking the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Oxide ink and a mini blending tool.

Crafts Galore Encore is an Anything Goes challenge, so you can share any of your handmade projects with us. You have the whole month of December to enter and we look forward to seeing your makes.

  1. Beautiful, great detail and so pretty, these will look stunning on your designs. Thank you for sharing, I have GIMP and still haven't tried working with it, guess its time to learn the program, hugs, Lori m

  2. Oh, such a delight, Monica! I've just been introduced to these coins and hope to start making some after my holiday travels around three states – which means early next year. I'll have to take some tips and inspiration from you. 😀
