Spellbinders Colorful Burst Flower in full bloom

Today I am sharing a card made in a different style to my normal rather Clean and Simple style. This one lends heavily from the Maximalist style – which is bold and makes use of strong colors that are not always the obvious choice to coordinate together. Various textures are also included to complete the style.

When Spellbinders contacted me about this die set, a bold, colorful concept came to mind. I cut the flower using red and purple cardstock and assembled it. The die cut pieces are easy to assemble as they fit together well. I cut the stem and leaves from a lighter green cardstock and cut some of the leaves twice so that they would be double thickness. This also leans into the various textures of the Maximalist style.

The background

I opted to use a burgundy card panel for this fantastical flower. I liked the contrast it gave to both the foliage and the red and purple of the flower. To add yet another texture, I ran the card panel through an embossing folder from my stash. I added the card panel to a white A2 notecard and then arranged the flower on the front of the card. It sure did make a bold statement.

Finishing off the card

I completed the card with a “happy birthday” sentiment using another Spellbinders die set. I cut the words from white cardstock and the shadow from black to add another bold element to my card.

I would love to know if you enjoy the Maximalist style in decor or art and if you think that this card is bold and vibrant enough to be considered Maximalistic.

  1. I love the card, really like the embossed background. I am not too familiar with the ‘Maximalist style’ but from what I understand and read up, it could be classed as such. Well done in trying something new and bold.
